MarketTown Condos - Construction Starts Soon!

Blog by Matthew & Robert Johnston | April 12th, 2013

MarketTown is taking shape this season.

Mady Developments will begin work on the two buildings totaling 200 units on a site that will also feature a state-of-the-art grocery store and a Cineplex Odeon.

"Cineplex Odeon is coming to the site, and as a result, we're seeing the project become more of a lifestyle centre. You'll see more restaurants and retail-type users, things that are complementary to the Zehrs and the theatre use, something for everyone," said Mady Corporation senior vice-president Greg Puklicz.

Known as North Barrie Crossing, the site at the corner of Cundles Road and Duckworth Street will also include a bank and smaller retailers.

Demand for services as well as homes in the northeast prompted the condominium component to quickly sell out, said marketing vice-president Jonathan Mueller.

"We're expecting to start construction within the next 30 days, specifically on the condos. We started selling in the fall of 2010 and we are, between the two phases, over 85 per cent sold. There's a local first-time buyer as well as investors from the 905 area," said Mueller. "Primarily it's Barrie purchasers and people working at the hospital and college."

The residential component is located at the end of the site nearest St. Joseph's Catholic High School.

MarketTown condos combine smaller stores on the ground floor with several storeys of residential above.

Construction of various pieces will begin this year, with the entire project expected to take two years to complete.
