Warmer weather is not the only thing returning to downtown Barrie. So too are the sounds of construction at Barrie's Lakeview Condominium and Collier Centre Project. And it is a welcome sound to many condo owners and business.
The project, plagued with financial difficulties, the loss of anchor tenants and numerous delays, is finally on track and is 65% complete. The mixed-use project of 82-condo units and an eight-storey commercial office tower, along with street and mezzanine-level retail space is slated to be ready for occupancy within 45 days, mostly for retail units. It will be a staged process of occupancy, with the last commercial ones on the upper level of the office tower being ready in late 2016. Residential occupancy will also be staged by floor, again by late 2016 but a few in early 2017.
Other than BMO, the only other confirmed tenant to date is Druxy's, however, some original tenants are currently working with the developer to reinstate their lease agreements, including the City of Barrie. Originally the city was going to take one floor of the office tower, the lowest level, and about 14,000 square feet.
